Attached is a link to a passionate call for accountability for judicial accountability following the release of an accused who went on to kill a police officer. For the presidents statement see http://www.ktvu.com/video/9591734/index.html
Very appropriate at a time when judicial patronage is before parliament. See the latest from CTV.
Presently, once appointed judges are accountable to no one for the decisions they make. When it comes to bail, where the release of an accused is opposed section 515(6) of the Criminal Code requires that judges provide reasons for granting release. Only rarely does this occur. Judicial patronage may place the public at risk. Incidents like that described by the president of the San Francisco Police Association should cause concern and result in a desire to ensure that political patronage does not impact the judiciary.
