Aussie Hells Angels Not Exactly Law Abiding Citizens

November 26th, 2006 · No Comments

I would start with the notion that when a law abiding citizen receives a subpoena, they respond to it. Apparently the Australian Crime Commission, the purpose of which is to to improve Australia’s ability to meet the threats posed by nationally significant and organized crime has started an inquiry into Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs. It seems that a member of the Hells Angels received a subpoena to appear before the commission, failed to do so, and was arrested. When he appeared in Court, the HA member applied for a publication ban and it was granted. It seems that this HA member whose name still has not been published did not want the public to be made aware of the fact that he did not respond to the subpoena. He is now the fourth member of the Hells Angels facing court action over refusing to attend or answer questions at the ACC hearing. Last month, three Hells Angels members were ordered to stand trial on charges of refusing to answer questions and failing to attend when summonsed.

In the media war in Canada and the United States, members of the Hells Angels have gone to great lengths to claim that their organization is not part of a world-wide criminal organization. If this is the case, why are their Australian brothers failing to appear before the commission? More can be found in the article from AdelaideNow.
