The story published by www.WFAA.com last week entitled Video Captures Man Give the How To’s on Car Stealing is my inspiration for this weeks video compilation.
The story involved a man giving crime tips to a teen when the pair stole a car in Fort Worth Texas. Their mistake was that they stole a bait car that was video and audio recording their every move and comment. The older thief could be heard warning the younger not to leave prints and instructing him to look for valuables. The words of the older criminal were “You got to take whatever you can fool.” Things get exciting when the pair see a police car. They prepare to run but the cops have locked the doors and shut down the engine.
Most of the following videos come from the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team. I would suggest checking out this site and some of their additional videos. This program is effective. As was noted on the site since the bait car program started:
Auto theft in Nanaimo has dropped by 17% in the three month period since the bait car program was launched throughout Vancouver Island on April 1, 2005. Auto theft in Victoria, British Columbia’s capital, has dropped by 36% over the same period compared to the same three month period in 2004.
It is unfortunate that other departments do not post these types of videos. You get to see the criminal in their element and their comments show their true attitudes. Most of them recognize that bait cars are on the streets yet they are not deterred. When the thieves see the police, which is inevitable, the results can be hilarious.
