3D Crime Scene to be Used in Murder Trial of Gang Members Charged in 2005 Boxing Day Shootout

December 19th, 2006 · No Comments

From the Toronto Sun is an article 3D Crime Scene: Camera set up to help aid prosecutors at shooting trial.

Jane Creba was a 15-year-old from Toronto, Canada, who was mortally shot on one of Toronto’s busiest streets while shopping on Boxing Day, 2005. Creba’s death was the result of a shootout between two youth gangs. Ten people have been charged with murder or manslaughter in the case, three of whom are youths.

According to the Toronto Sun a police spokesman commented in relation to the reconstruction stating “Its for the trial, it’s something the crown requested.”

In the Sun article it was stated that:

Normally a company that deals in aerial maps, Northway-Photomap Inc. of Lesmill Road in Toronto has the expertise and technology to create a complete 3D photoshoot of the entire scene.

“You can take the image and look at it from any direction,” said Stephen Dixon, a technician with the firm.

Inside his truck is a computer that shows a hi-tech look at the scene which will give prosecutors and investigators a look at every aspect of that area for all directions.

I was not able to find any examples of the 3D work of Northway-Photomap Inc. but it is not difficult to imagine just how much this type of crime scene reconstruction will assist a jury.
