Officer Cleared in Shooting Caught by Dash Cam

January 30th, 2007 · 1 Comment

This video from the Minnesota state patrol shows trooper Bryan Carey talking with a driver in November. Carey wound up breaking the window and firing seven times. According to Carey the driver refused to get out, and then pulled a gun. The driver died. A report cleared the trooper of wrongdoing calling the shooting justified. The driver, 50-year-old Ronald Hannuksela was wanted on several warrants. Trooper Carey recognized Hannuksela and pulled him over.

What a strange video. Time goes backwards, if you look at the 1:40 that changes to 1:37, etc. as the video proceeds.
The actions are not in order. Cop cars suddenly appear, then vanish. A helper is absent, then vanishes. The turn signal goes on, then off.
A video like that would not be of much use in court.
It does seem that the officer’s actions were justified, since the driver appears to have fired twice, with puffs of vapor coming from the window of his car.
